Peer Tutor

Objectives:
Peer Tutors are academic leaders on campus who are expected to support the objectives of course support which are to:
- Provide undergraduate students at Charlotte access to free, high-quality peer-to-peer, course support.
- Foster an inclusive environment for students to learn by providing strengths-focused services.
- Provide a collaborative relationship among course support leaders and students that encourages a challenging, yet supportive learning environment, leading to greater educational equity on campus.
Position Info:
- This position provides opportunities for leadership, personal growth, and professional development.
- Tutors provide one-on-one appointments, group appointments, and/or drop-in tutoring to currently enrolled undergraduate students.
- Tutors must provide a minimum of 5 hours of appointment availability each week, with at least 50% of availability being in-person, and can work up to 29 hours/week.
- Tutors may create their own schedules based on their availability. Evening and weekend hours are optional.
- Earn nationally recognized certifications as a Level 1 Certified, Level 2 Advanced, and Level 3 Master Tutor through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).

Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled undergraduate with one semester of academic coursework at UNC Charlotte.
- Cumulative GPA over 3.0.
- You must have made an “A” in the course(s) you apply to as a course support leader. Transfer grades may be considered with additional documentation.
- Two references. One reference from a UNC Charlotte faculty member in the subject area you apply to tutor, and preferably in the main course of expertise. The other can be an employment reference or another faculty.
- A commitment of at least 2-semesters is encouraged and in-semester resignations are highly discouraged.
